What’s the difference between Nisei, Kurashikku and Ketsugo?
Nisei is the ideal first upgrade, made from German steel and very easy to maintain. Kurashikku uses harder Japanese VG10 steel for longer edge retention and a sharper feel. Ketsugo offers similar performance with Japanese AUS10 steel but features a natural olive wood handle for a warmer look. All three are designed as a step up from basic kitchen knives.
Why are the Kazoku Essential knives made outside Japan?
Not all great knives have to come from a Japanese forge. Our family has been testing knives for decades, and we found makers in China and Germany that meet our standards. The Essential line is built around trust: sharp blades, solid balance, and practical design, all without overpricing it. We proudly stand behind every knife we put our name on.
What makes Kazoku knives special?
Every Kazoku knife starts with the same idea: it has to be something we’d want to use ourselves. Whether it’s made in Japan or elsewhere, we only work with steel we trust and makers we know. Add our background in sharpening, a balanced feel in the hand, and a price that makes sense, and you’ve got a knife that’s built to perform.
How long will the knives stay sharp?
That depends on how you treat them, but with normal home use and proper care, most Kazoku knives will hold their edge for months. Our Prestige knives, made with harder Japanese steels, can stay sharp even longer. And when the time comes, they’re easy to bring back to razor-sharp with a whetstone or honing rod.
