A whetstone is only as good as its surface. When a stone develops a hollow in the middle, it stops sharpening and starts rounding; and most people don't notice until their results get worse.
The Kazoku flattening stone fixes that. At 100 grit, it cuts fast and levels even badly dished stones in a few minutes. Run your stone across it, feel the high spots grind down, and you're back to a flat, true surface that sharpens the way it's supposed to. It's an unglamorous job, but nothing else in your sharpening kit matters as much as doing it regularly.
Made in Japan, the same country that takes whetstone geometry seriously enough to warrant a dedicated tool for maintaining it. If you own good stones, this is how you keep them good.
